Privacy policy
The short version: ChatPanel manages your messenger accounts and keeps each one isolated. It does not read, store, or transmit the contents of your conversations. Your chats stay between you and each service.
What ChatPanel stores
- Your account list. For each account you add, ChatPanel saves the platform, a display title you choose, a color, and timestamps — so your list is there when you reopen the extension. It never includes messages, contacts, or your login credentials for those services.
- Your settings. The handful of on/off preferences in the extension.
- An anonymous ID. By default ChatPanel signs you in anonymously (no email, no name) so your account list can be saved. This ID is not linked to your identity.
- Your email — only if you choose Pro. Pro is tied to the email you pay with. If you sign in to activate or sync Pro, we store that email so the extension can recognise your subscription across devices. That is the only thing your email is used for.
This data is held in Google Firebase (Firestore) on our behalf. Your messages are never part of it.
Isolation and cookies
To keep two accounts of the same service from colliding, ChatPanel relocates each account's cookies and site storage into a private, per-account space inside your own browser. This all happens locally, on your device. Those cookies belong to the services you log into — ChatPanel simply keeps them separated; it does not read or send them anywhere.
Payments
Purchases are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle collects and holds your payment details and billing information under its own privacy policy; we never see or store your card. We receive a record that a subscription exists for your email, plus its status — nothing more.
Analytics and error reporting in the extension
To keep ChatPanel working we use two services inside the extension. Both are configured to mask text, so the account titles you write and your email address are hidden from what they record:
- Sentry — crash and error reports. When an error happens it may capture a masked recording of the panel so we can see what broke. It receives your anonymous ID, never your email.
- Microsoft Clarity — how the panel is used (clicks, navigation), with text masked. It receives your anonymous ID.
If you open Feedback or Roadmap from the menu, that opens our feedback portal (Featurebase) and passes your anonymous ID so we can follow up on what you report.
This website
chatpanel.app uses Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, analytics cookies are set only if you accept them in the banner; you can change your choice any time via the "Cookies" link in the footer. Standard server logs (IP, user agent) may be kept briefly by our hosting provider for security and reliability.
Cloudflare Web Analytics — cookieless, and that is the point. Cloudflare already serves this site, so it sees the request either way. Its analytics add a count of page views on top: no cookie, no browser storage, and no identifier that follows you between visits. That is why it is not part of the cookie banner, and why declining the banner does not switch it off — there is nothing stored to decline. It is what lets us see a page's traffic honestly, including the visitors who said no to Google Analytics.
Two pages load Paddle's script, and no others. The checkout page loads it because that is the payment form. The home page loads it for Paddle Retain, which exists for one thing: if you are a Pro subscriber whose card has just failed, it offers you a one-click way to update it instead of quietly losing your subscription. Paddle sees the visit — your IP address and that you loaded the page. It stores nothing in this site's cookies or browser storage, and it never sees anything inside the extension: ChatPanel and this website share no data in either direction. Our own pages load their font from a privacy-friendly mirror rather than Google; the one exception is that recovery dialog, which is Paddle's and fetches its font from Google Fonts. It is only ever drawn for a subscriber whose payment has already failed.
Who processes your data
- Google Firebase — sign-in and the storage that holds your account list and settings.
- Paddle — payments, as merchant of record.
- Sentry — error reports from the extension.
- Microsoft Clarity — usage analytics in the extension.
- Featurebase — the feedback and roadmap portal, only when you open it.
- Google Analytics — this website only.
- Cloudflare — hosting for this website, and its cookieless page-view analytics.
What we never do
- Read, store, or sell the content of your messages.
- Sell or share your personal data with advertisers.
- Ask for your passwords to WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord or any other service.
